MOTIF: Writing by Ear
Erin's poem "The Part Where the Guitar Begins to Bleed" appears in the new anthology of music writing MOTIF: Writing by Ear, edited by Marianne Worthington and published by Motes Books. Other contributors include Silas House, Beth Newberry, Maurice Manning, Pamela Duncan and Patty Griffin. Peter Griffin of the Tennessean says, "Within this beautiful book are thousands of words that offer poetry and laughter, peace and respite, Piano Red and Patty Loveless. There are burgundy shoes here, and feet that tattoo the earth. There is Roy, the wino who worked for Bud Whedbee doing maintenance jobs. There is bourbon and ginger, and melody and harmony in between the lines. All adorn the mystery, with no notion to unravel."
Cringe along with Erin
An early, terrible sonnet of Erin's (scanned straight from her high school journal, with illustrations, no less!) has been selected for Cringe, an anthology from Random House edited by writer and Cringe Reading Series director Sarah Brown, who says of the book: "The more dramatic, embarrassing or excruciating the writing, the better. A good test to determine whether or not your material is Cringe-worthy: when you read it to yourself, do you physically cringe? Then for the love of god, it needs to be in this book. Seriously. You are going to be so glad you did this. Cheaper and better than therapy." Order your copy of Cringe today.
Poems in Kentucky anthology
Five of Erin's poems have been published in New Growth, an anthology of emerging Kentucky writers published by the Jesse Stuart Foundation.
This anthology includes fiction by Lauren Titus, Aimee Zaring, Mike Hampton and Matt Jaeger; poetry by Tammy Ramsey and Sherry Chandler; and nonfiction by Graham Shelby.
The One-Hit Wonders (2006)
The One-Hit Wonders (Snark Publishing, 2006) is a short collection of poems that explores the human condition through our relationship with rock & roll. At the heart of the book is the weight of time, as a cast of characters—including an epileptic, an invisible girl, Gram Parsons, a record store clerk, gladiators, groupies, guitarists and a one-hit wonder—search for ways to bridge the disconnect between experience and desire in both life and afterlife.
